Throwback Thursday: The best moments from the first episode of Legends of the Hidden Temple.

It’s Thursday, which means it’s a good day to throw back to the most wonderful things of our youth, like Legends of the Hidden Temple.

The show, which lasted for three glorious seasons from 1993 to1995, pitted several teams of two children against each other, in a battle of brain and brawn. Well, a battle of aural comprehension and slight physical exertion. Here are the best things from season one, episode one: “Blackbeard’s Treasure Map.”

1. The very-comprehensive protective gear.

2.  Everything everyone is wearing

3. The discrepancy between the prizes: first-place winners get a discman, remote-controlled car and trip to the Cayman Islands. Losers get Nerds.

4. Kids getting multiple choice answers (about the legend, revealed by Olmec) wrong because they didn’t listen to the options:

Olmec:  Which of these did Blackbeard tie in his beard?

Kid from Orange Iguana team: Bows! Red bows!

Olmec:  That is not one of our three choices. The three choices are rats, ribbons or burning ropes.

Olmec: Which of these would Blackbeard do to keep his men on their toes?

Kid from Orange Iguana team: He would shoot them.

Olmec: That is incorrect.

5. Host Kirk Fogg’s interviews and banter with the children, which make us wonder about how Kirk Fogg is doing, really:

Kirk Fogg: Why do you want to be an elementary school teacher?

Carissa from the Silver Snakes: I like being around kids.

Fogg: Well, you’re around a few here.

6.Host Kirk Fogg trying to direct the kids inside Olmec’s Temple:

Fogg: “Which way is she going to go now? Try another door… no that’s going to take you back up to the observatory… might want to try down… that’s going to take her back up the observatory again.. might want to come on back down… oh she’s heading back out the way she came in. That’s tough. Oh! Time’s up.”

7. Kids getting excited about answering questions correctly. You do you, ’90s kids.
